I loved our approach to yesterday’s game. I’ll start off with the Defense. VJ instilled an ideal approach to stopping CLE: stack the D-line, sell out for the run, and make DTR beat us through the air. VJ played to our strengths, ensuring the game was played on our terms. Giving guys like Surtain, JMac, Simmons, and Locke the chance to make plays instead of straining our run D was monumental in this win. Sure, there were drops by Njoku+Ford, but I’m sure VJ accounted for all that when designing our Defensive plan for Sunday. The hard hitting was especially great. We were physical from minute 1 minute 60. That type of mentality WINS in the playoffs when games are tighter. That toughness leads to turnovers, and 3 more from the boys on Sunday went a long way to ANOTHER W.
The offense was a revelation. Run game was efficient, we got huge chunk plays from Court and the RB’s, and Russ was basically immaculate. Apart from the fumble, Russ had a great game. Extending plays, being prudent with the ball, making calls at the line into favourable runs, Running it himself, he was great. The O-line played incredible too. Neutralizing Garrett, making holes for Pookie and Samajae, and giving Russ time: This was their best performance of the year.
The special teams didn’t have any flash plays to me, but the kicking remained solid which is a great sign.
This Sunday at Houston is the biggest game of the season, and if we can build on this performance against a top tier AFC team, we’ll be in great shape. Looking forward to hearing what y’all think.
Buck 'em.
