It’d be interesting to see which countries these are, and also which connector BYD has used in which countries.

In some regions, such as Australia and Europe, standards are already well defined and BYD sells their vehicles with a CCS2 connector. But many smaller/less developed countries may not have defined standards, and the de facto standard gets defined by the dominant supplier to the country (which may end up being BYD).

We’ve seen this with Tesla in the last few years, where they opted to use CCS2 almost everywhere, pushing it to the status of dominant standard in many countries.

If you add info on “likely” standards (based on what is dominant on Plugshare) to the Tesla map above, you get something like this. This BYD data might clarify some of these uncertain locations.

My personal opinion is that the main region of uncertainty will be South America, Central America and the Caribbean. Most other areas outside of North American/China/Japan will be CCS2.

I’m not sure how many readers of this post are from somewhere other than North America/Europe/Australia/NZ etc. But if you live in a less well known country and BYD is available there, please share what you know!

I’ll start:

Countries where the BYD Atto 3 is available:

  • Australia: CCS2
  • New Zealand: CCS2
  • Europe [which countries?]: CCS2

(I’ll update this list with info from the comments)

Interesting combo! Especially Audi, BMW etc. being European brands.

Which country? I’m guessing somewhere near the US?

Ah, no i definitely didn’t think the US or Canada itself! but somewhere nearby (Central America/Caribbean) which might have both North American and European influence.
