It’s always been there, when phone is unlocked and you haven’t swiped to open.

If you have control center disabled on lock screen, the bar also won’t appear, until phone is unlocked.

There’s no way to disable it, you’ve probably just never noticed it for whatever reason, different wallpaper or whatever.
