Hello everyone, i recently found out that the usb port on my deck isn’t powering external devices, and with the release of the OLED model the issue popped up a couple of times here in the subreddit. Everyone seems to agree it’s a software related bug, limited to the new OLED models, but i have a standard deck, which i bought in late september this year.

There seems to be some workarounds to it, but nothing has been successful for me:

- powering the deck on with the usb device already connected to the port (doesn’t work for me)

- switching between different hubs, adaptors (doesn’t work for me)

- switching “dual role device” from DRD to XHCI in the BIOS (doesn’t work for me)

The issue is persistent on both Windows and SteamOS, the only thing that actually work is using a dock connected to a charger, so that it’s not the deck’s port job to power everything on.

Now, i wanted to put this out there, as it seems like the issue is slowly being recognized, but i fear a fix is being worked on which will only affect the OLED models. The only thing that comes to mind is that despite my unit being a standard deck, it’s Valve’s latest revision, with the black metal plate and the different fan.

Is anyone experiencing this? Are there any new on a possible fix?

I have a black 1TB OLED and so far have zero issues powering a mechanical 5tb portable drive. Also have a USB dongle for mouse and keyboard.

Using a third party dock, though, and 100W charger. Same as I used with the LCD Deck.
