Is it normal to just… fall off, and not be as good at gaming? Because I feel like I’ve been getting worse for a while now.

I had this problem earlier with Spider-Man. I was shocked how uncoordinated I was adjusting to the controls. But I snapped out of the shock once I popped SW Battlefront in and played that decently.

The answer to this is going to vary greatly depending on the types of games you like to play.

If we’re talking about twitch shooters, then yeah unfortunately reaction speed can decline a bit with age. The gamer hands get tired after a lifetime.

I’m 27 and definitely worse than I used to be. Ain’t got the time to get good at games no more. Ain’t got the time to struggle with single player games either so I always do normal or easy. I’ve also noticed I’ve been playing less and less multiplayer games because of time. I would rather play through one of the 1300 games I have instead of grind a multiplayer game.

42 here. I definitely feel the same way. But my focus in gaming has changed to match I guess. I spend far less time playing shooters (which would also explain decline in skill) and more time playing turn based stuff where I can coast and take my time.

In my 50’s and I’m as good as ever. I’d never change my settings to make a game easier.

I probably peaked when I was somewhere between 12 and 15 or so.

Nah, what game is giving you heck? I’m about to be 47 and still can hang in some games. For example I’m a ARAM junkie and get some attention here and there. Give me Fizz and I’ll piss off the whole enemy team 😁

I’m 44 and playing the best League of Legends of my career (been playing for over 10 years). If you’re letting yourself go in your old age, getting fat, not active, etc., then yeah you’re gunna fall off in life and probably even in gaming to a certain degree.

    yeah…

Your reaction time is slower than it used to be and that makes sence as the older you get the lower it gets.

You proberly still better than me and i’m 26

I can’t even get past the third stage of Super C after using all 10 lives and continues. I was able to beat it without dying many times as a middle schooler. Then got the NES Classic and after repeatedly failing to get past the third level I realized I’m a has-been.

It’s far more likely you just aren’t spending as much time playing games and so your skill has wained:

    https://www.vintageisthenewold.com/game-pedia/do-you-get-worse-at-gaming-as-you-get-older#:~:text=If%20anything%2C%20reaction%20time%20and,as%20good%20at%20a%20game.

This and other studies show that the ‘reaction time’ decrease when aging that gamers like to site is mostly inconsequential and has almost zero real impact (certainly not any impact that can’t be overcome from just practice), even in reaction heavy games like Counter Strike.

Video games are one of the most ‘elastic’ forms of competition there is aside from playing cards. Muscles wane, physical ability wanes but your mind mostly stays building upon itself (unless you suffer from an illness/disease).

well I haven’t gotten old enough to be sure just yet, but I’m 26 and still play a lot of games on just about the hardest difficulty. I have gotten more lenient with myself though so if I start struggling too much I consider whether or not it’s worth it to just decrease the difficulty

Yes and no. My gaming is more focused now. I’ll play on easy or normal or hard depending on the game. If games are well designed enough, I’ll put in the effort to master the hand-held coordination and timing. I gave up competitive FPS though, just can’t compete with the raw twitchy speed of teenagers .

Also if a game has way too many combat mechanics, I’m out. This is an issue I have with God of War… Too many combinations and mods. Mixed in with short taps and long presses.
