The Swiss Football Association (SFA) continues to rely on Murat Yakin as men’s national team coach - and thus on continuity - and is travelling with him to the UEFA EURO 2024 in Germany.

After qualifying for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, reaching the last 16 of the World Cup, staying in Group A of the UEFA Nations League and just completing qualification for the 2024 European Championship in Germany, the 49-year-old Basel native has achieved all of his contractually agreed goals.

“Even though we drew four times and lost once in the last qualifying matches, Murat Yakin enjoys our full confidence. He has our support in all areas so that he can take part in the European Championship in Germany with the best possible team and staff,” says SFA President Dominique Blanc.

Yakin also wants to fulfil his contract, which runs until summer 2024. “We will do everything we can to be ready to successfully represent our country at the European Championship next summer. That’s why we’ll be scrutinising all areas where we can improve in the coming days and weeks. We want to set the course for the future.”

The decision in principle regulates the medium-term cooperation between the association and the national team coach. “Murat has shown us concrete solutions as to how he wants to take the team and the staff forward,” says national team director Pierluigi Tami. “He has convinced us that he is still the right man for the job of national team coach.” Once the 2024 European Championships are over, a decision will be made on how to proceed.
