In a joint statement, TransActual and Trans+ Solidarity Alliance said the guidance would “not survive contact with reality in resource-strapped hospitals and will create unworkable operational challenges”.

“This NHS guidance emphasises clinical judgment as the priority over blanket exclusion, but leaves individual healthcare professionals unclear on how to safely look after trans patients,” they said.

“Forcing trans people into spaces for our sex assigned at birth will never be the most clinically appropriate decision, and would push trans people away from accessing care.”

So I can’t really give your comment a free pass. Because in a way it’s guilty of the exact same “you need look like a man/woman to be one” fallacy held by transphobes.

Cuz TIL about PCOS, basically when womens’ ovaries produce hormones that among other symptoms can give some women full on facial hair / beards. Saw a creator/advocate and actually had to look into their profile to realize they weren’t mtf.

      …

Also kinda weird that we’re defaulting to a binary system after spending years advocating that gender affirming care is individualized and between a doctor and patient. IMO facility placement should also be case by case.

In a real example; a man committed sex crimes against many women, and then transitioned mtf after being incarcerated, but was refused transfer to a womens facility because of their *ongoing attempts to victimize female corrections officers.

      …

Quite frankly everyone demanding gender accurate prisons has lost the plot anyways cuz prisons are a tool of oppression in a system designed to chew us up and spit us out. We should be demanding restorative justice that sidesteps the vast majority of concerns our current system creates.
