Good luck! Dogs are like kids though, even the weird ugly ones will bring you joy. If a pug isn’t in the cards soon, look for a different apartment friendly rescue and later a retropug could become it’s adopted sibling perhaps - they tend to get along very well with other dogs!

Unfortunately the cat distribution system is trying very hard to put one in my life, but I have birds and that just wouldn’t be fair to either
