Question: Does DIY Engine Oil change require “Oil Additives”? I don’t see it on the owner’s manual but I read somewhere or watched something on youtube about oil additives helping longevity and performance of the car.

  • If yes, what type of Oil Additives are best? It doesn’t say in the manual or maybe I’m searching the wrong “key word / term”

Vehicle information:

  • Year: 2019
  • Make: Genesis
  • Model: G70
  • 2.0 AWD

Is there anything else I need to be mindful of replacing besides:

  • Engine Oil
  • Oil Filter
  • Drain Plug
  • Drain Plug Gasket
  • Oil Additives? Do I do this with EVERY oil change? or every other oil change?

Going through my owner’s manual, I see that it says: Engine Oil and Engine replace every 6,000 miles (I plan on doing it every 5,000 miles with their recommended Engine Oil)

Is it common for the brand to recommend a specific “brand” of Engine Oil? Asking out of curiosity. I will use the recommended brand and viscosity.

I just recently got into DIY auto maintenance and it’s very interesting and I can’t wait to try things out at home. The most I’ve done right now is replacing engine air filters and cabin air filters for me and my family. Now I’m trying to tackle me and my families engine oil when it’s due.

Stupid Question here: What is snake oil? lol I googled it and it wasn’t what I THOUGHT it was.

"Snake oil is a term used to describe deceptive marketing, health care fraud, or a scam. Similarly, snake oil salesman is a common label used to describe someone who sells, promotes, or is a general proponent of some valueless or fraudulent cure, remedy, or solution. "

No wonder it’s not in the owner’s manual. But the owner’s manual states to NEVER change the transmission oil and everyone I talk to (people who work on their own cars) says transmission oils should be changed and that it doesn’t make sense that the differential oil will last forever. May I ask your opinion on this as well?
