I’ve seen quite a few fans throw around Al Harris’ name as a potential DC next year. Now I love Al Harris as much as the next Packers fan, but is there really a great reason to choose him other than ex-Packers nostalgia? Like obviously the Cowboys defense is great but how much of that is because of Harris as the DB coach vs Dan Quinn or just having elite athletes on defense in general?

I’m not saying Harris isn’t a good coach or anything, but it’s one thing to be a player who used to play defensive back and becoming a good DBs coach, it’s an entirely different thing to be able to scheme and run an entire defense effectively.

And maybe he can do that well! But at this point that’s a big unknown

He probably will get DC interviews (maybe even HC with how many openings there looks to be this year) and it’s easy to pair that with his longtime team who might need a new DC.

    so, yeah.

Another consideration is that we would get rewarded with draft compensation if we hired him as a DC and then he gets a job as a HC somewhere else due to his success here. A la the Niners.
