Wilfork is the quintessential summary and textbook definition of a Nose Tackle (NT). Greatest to ever play that position because he solidified the NT position as a full-time and fully encompassing position on the DL.
And I say, AMEN TO THAT!!
I think Harrison has the best shot. His 2003/4 run was one for the ages (I believe that the defense should have won MVP for the first Eagles SB) and if you look at the 2006 team, his injury against the Titans, you can trace that to how the Patriots lose against the Colts in the AFCCG; Dallas Clark made some big plays and, simply, Rodney would have been there to stop some of them. Pats still should have won, but we will let ol’ Reche rest today.
As HoF folk like stats, the one that stands out for RH is that 30/30 int and sacks. That’s big. I don’t know how many players have that. Not many.
Vince…I agree, but at the end of the day, there aren’t stats for amount of double teams absorbed leading to defensive matchup advantages. If so, yes, agreed. Funny…Richard Seymour was kind of similar, but his edge presence allowed him to get some more statistical impact. Who knows. People around the league know about #75. I mean, that’s a dude.
So…just to be fun, I am gonna make two wishes for each of them. For Rodney, I wish that Bobby Wade was never born so he can’t take a cheap shot on his kneecap and break his shit, week 17 2006. For Vince, man, I wish he scored that fucking touchdown.
That’s why I hate the hall of stats. Everyone who watched him play knows Vince is worthy of being a first ballot hof but here he is on the fourth try because they care more about garbage time sacks than impact on the game
I’m ok Rodney doesn’t get in, but Vince absolutely needs to be in. Fuck stats, they don’t say shit. What stat are you looking at for center, most snaps? If you are building a 3-4 defense there is nobody in the hall you take over Vince at nose. Reggie White, DE, Aaron Donald, DE, Richard Seymour, DE, best guy you can argue to back Vince up is the Fridge. Show the big man the love he deserves
