Look, its no secret that I’m on team tank. I’m not going to sit here and bitch about winning games, but if you stand back and take a look at the big picture I think we could all agree that winning games is not in the best interest of the future of this team if we’re being honest with ourselves.
Should we tank on purpose? Should we start sitting key players? Not necessarily. The head coach and the players are NOT TANKING, and they basically never will. Even our GM doesn’t seem to be embracing the tank; sure, he let Leo go for a 2nd round pick, but who wouldn’t?
So what now?
As a fan like the rest of you, the only thing I can do is sit back and see what happens. I really thought for a minute there that we would end up with the 1st or 2nd overall pick, but its starting to look like that’s not very realistic. If we win one more game we might very well be out of the top 10. There’s some bad football this season. Literally might be one of the worst seasons I’ve ever witnessed. Who’s starting QB is going to have a season ending injury this week? I guess we’ll have to find out!
So yeah, 9.
I already created a write up immediately after the Patriots game, but I promptly deleted it after giving it a once over. Considering the vibe of the subreddit, I didn’t want to be downvoted into oblivion with my flaming hot takes. Since then I’ve been thinking that this might actually be the worst time to be a Giants fan in franchise history: since 1925.
From 1973 to 1977, the NYG won 23 games (5 years).
From 2017 to 2021, the NYG won 22 games (5 years).
Convenient of me to leave out 2016 and 2022, I know. But I find these seasons to be outliers. 2016 OBJ was going tf off and our schedule was pretty easy. We also had VERY good luck with close games. 2022 we also won a lot of close games, but then lost to the lions, lost to the cowboys, TIED (for gods sake) against the commanders, got our asses kicked by Philly, and took care of business against the colts. Oh, and we couldn’t beat the eagles while they were resting their starters.
Wins and losses aren’t necessarily indicative of pain though. Its more-so the fact that we haven’t beaten the Eagles or Cowboys in a game that mattered since 2016. It’s the fact that we fucked up royally at a QB and then doubled down after he has an outlier season (hey, I was fooled too). It’s the fact that if the season plays out as it has so far, we’re looking at about a 6th-10th overall draft pick. Sure, we could trade up. But does the roster of this team look like one that can afford to trade away draft picks? I don’t think so.
So what do we do if we get 10th overall pick and don’t draft a QB? Start DJ next season, he has a game or two where he looks good, he ultimately falls short, and we’re back to the draft…. Assuming DJ starts next season, he can pull a few wins out. Maybe 4-6 based on history. So… we’re in the top 10 draft order…. Again….
Look: I’m not saying that we NEED the number 1 overall pick in order to get our QB. Shit, look at Baker Mayfield, or Kyler Murray, Jameis Winston, Sam Bradford, etc. Shit look at all QB’s taken in the last 4 years in the 1st round: Drew Lock is a bust, Zach Wilson is trash, Trey Lance couldn’t beat out Mr. Irrelevant, Mac Jones is trash, Kenny Picket is barely hanging on, Sam Darnold is buns, Josh Rosen is MIA, Justin Fields is a joke, the ones taken this year I’ll give a break cause year 1 shouldn’t be indicative of your future.
Where was I going with this… Ah right: We don’t NEED the 1st overall pick, but I would like Joe Schoen to at least have the ability to take the player that he wants without any funny business. Looks like that’s not going to happen.
So what the fuck are we going to do? In my opinion, the plan doesn’t change. Draft the best QB available and pray you get lucky. If Next season happens and it turns out hes trash, fuckin draft another. And another. Keep drafting QB’s until you get one for fucks sake.
Bro fuck a top 15 QB, Fuck a top 10 QB, I want a top 5 QB. I get they’re hard to find, but I’m trying to win a FUCKING SUPERBOWL, not squeeze into the playoffs when Philly and Dallas lets us.
Superbowl winning QB’s the last few years: Patrick Mahomes (top 5), Matthew Stafford (okay not top 5 but he was cooking), Tom Brady (goat), Peyton Manning, Russell Wilson in his prime, Aaron Rodgers, Eli Manning, Drew Brees, I didn’t even mention the QB’s that LOST the superbowl but they at least got there: Jalen Hurts (top 5) Joe Burrow (top 5), Cam newton in his prime, Jared Goff on the Rams was absolutely mental that year, idk I guess im just rambling now. But the point stands: We need a top 5 QB. Not top 15, not top 10, top 5. Keep sending it.
We have a good head coach, we have a good supporting staff, and a good GM. There are pieces in place here for the future, but not many. If we want to be playing with the big kids for the long term, we gotta fix this.
I’m glad the locker room isn’t fucked up and winning is definitively good for the team culture, but it just fucking blows as a fan watching their chances at the next top 5 quarterback go lower, and lower, and lower.
I’ll always root for the G men during the game, but once its over I just rub my temples until I get blisters.
So yeah, 9. I have nothing to look forward to. Nothing to talk about. No opportunity to talk shit on any other fanbase. Our Left tackle is injured, our right tackle is a fucking idiot, our guards are fucked, our tight end can’t stay healthy, our RB is a complete question mark at this point, and the QB is both done for the season, and dog water.

Sorry for the hot takes but I am straight up not having a good time and no amount of Guido’s or hogies is gonna change that.
