What a breath of fresh air to have a leader who cared about the ethics of what he said! The result was eloquence. Seriousness. Intellect. The character of Jean-Luc Picard, which Patrick played brilliantly, was the antithesis of many of our leaders today.

I haven’t met them all, but of the main cast I have met (her, Dorn, Burton, Spiner) she was the loveliest person of the bunch. Reading her heartfelt sendoff comes as no surprise given what extremely little I know of her.

Many of us would have loved to have seen him once more.

Beautifully written, but that’s the line that sticks out for me. Patrick Stewart gave us so much, but I would have loved one more.

(And yes, we will still get his final performance in Avengers: Doomsday, but I’ll still want one more after that.)

For anyone else who might not look at the byline: The whole thing is written by Gates McFadden. I expected some preamble from a Variety writer and was confused by the opening paragraph.
