I’m not trying to be a Pollyanna. Last night was terrible, all around. But there’s no point sulking if you’re a fan. So I wanted to post a few of my more optimistic takes and invite people to do the same.

  1. This team will get better. Everything is still seen through the prism of a divisive trade. But these things really do take time. Look at Rudy on the Wolves- that trade was reviled at the team. People were sure Kyrie would blow up the Mavs. Trades involving stars always bring a lot of squawking, but it’s crickets a few months later when the wins pile up.

  2. If this team doesn’t get better, they have awesome trade value. You really think Miami wouldn’t make the same or better offer for Kawhi that they made for Dame? You think the Lakers wouldn’t break open the piggy bank for PG? If we’re not in a different place by mid-January when the bird rights clear, they’re not gonna sit still.

  3. This team’s problems are mostly mental. I went into last night worried we’d lose. Why? Because this team has too many leaders who look at an injury report and think they can coast. This team has a burnt out coach and play dumb. These things can get fixed a lot easier than a talent deficit.

Anyhow, that’s all I got at this (very) low point. Right now, I feel like the optimistic take is with some injury luck and mild improvement we could still be a 5/6 seed and lose in the semis. That’s not terrible, but also not enough.
