As impressive as the offense gaining over 400 yds on Sunday the thing that stood out was how they were able to dominate the time of possession in the game. Even though they only managed to score 16 pts they were able to hold the ball for 37 minutes.
If they’re going to make a push for the playoffs this is the blueprint for success. The points will come if they manage to sustain drives and by keeping the ball the defense stays fresh.
It also puts more pressure on the opposing teams offense as their possessions become more important if they are getting fewer opportunities.
The only other game this year where the time of possession was this skewed was when the 49ers held the ball for 37 minutes against us.
Last week against Bengals defense, we moved and controlled the ball well as our Oline blocked better and our rushers gain more yards. Kenny seemed to have more confident and played better but he needed to be better in the opposing field and score more points. We should do this and improve against Cardinals which didn’t have a very good defense.
Now that we can move the ball like a normal offense we now have normal offense problems… Finding ways to score in the red zone.
I’m not too concerned with the points. 1 TD in 4 redzone trips isnt ideal (should have been 2 TDs), but the offense didn’t know what the redzone looked like so its hard to fault them. Teams that can control the ball for 35-40 minutes and has one of the best scoring defenses in the league will be in a position to win a lot of games. The points will come
Let’s be honest, it should have been 23 points, not 16 if the refs had made the correct call or Tomlin would have challenged the play. DJ had 3 feet down.
yup for the first time in a long time we were in control of the game 💪
