After years of being washed, having lost all my touch at the game… I finally clawed my way back to Platinum after an extremely long hiatus. Hi, my name is NVDax, I’ve been playing League since back about Season 2. At my absolute peak? I was in my promos for Diamond on another account. I didn’t reach it, however, and even ended up getting dropped down to honor zero, because I tilted hard in a game and mistakenly went full-singed.
I stopped playing League for years after that. Also went through a fairly hard time in my life. The pandemic hit, but I fell out of touch with League. After my friends complained off-hand about how horrible Pokemon Moba was, I suggested off-hand that this friend group try League. Made a new account, hopped on the journey with them.
But fact of the matter was I was washed. Mechanics I had weren’t there anymore. Couldn’t really climb in ranked, but I didn’t put a serious effort in either. Nor did I think I had the time to even try, working as an adult now. But my situation has now changed.
One of the things my friends told me while we were going struck a nerve. It became my motivating factor. I started grinding ranked over the last 40ish days. Usually only on my days off. And for that work? I’m now Platinum 4 and climbing. With a goal of Emerald 4 by Split’s end.
While I had been a top main originally, I’ve since transitioned into the jungle over the last 40 days. I’d picked Briar as a meme, not expecting to have fun. Yet I ended up having a blast and she quickly climbed the status as one of my most played characters.
That playing with Briar turned to map knowledge. Which turned to regaining my mechanics. I’ve steadily climbed from Bronze 4 which I was placed in, all the way to Plat 4.
My primary picks have been - Briar, Kayn, and Nocturne. I’ve since swapped Kayn for Evelynn. Though I only pick her as a last resort.
Overall? I’m content. If I make it to Emerald, that’d be awesome. But I’ve proved my friend wrong. Spite was largely my motivator. Personal achievement came second.
