I have no trouble maxing out my network speed when I am connected to 5G wifi. But when I am connected to 2G I am maxing out in the low 30’s. This isn’t a device-related issue because I have the same issue with my phone and laptop.

This doesn’t have anything to do with my router either. I have Unifi access points around my house that are hardwired to the network. So my router has no idea what version of wifi I am using but the speeds are very low when I’m on 2G.

I also know that my AP’s are not the problem because the AP’s use an SSID that is different from my router’s SSID. When I connect directly to the router’s radio the same thing happens – when on 5G I max out my download speed but when I’m on 2G I’m stuck in the 30’s.

To summarize, when I connect to 5G on AP’s or the router I get max speed. When I connect to 2G on AP’s or router I get 30’s. Same result with different devices.

I do not have a lot of interference from other 2G networks so that is not the issue. I do have a lot of IOT devices and cameras on 2G but they are all connected to the AP’s SSID. When I connect directly to the router, there are maybe four or five devices connected to it and they are low bandwidth IOT devices, so there’s no congestion on that wireless network. I should be able to get maximum speed.

Any idea what the heck is going on?

Do you see much interference and connection retries on the 2.4GHz spectrum in your Unifi controller?
