Hey folks I was going through the “Meditaions” by ‘Marcus Aurelius" and on the ‘Book one: debts and lessions’ page 9, number 16 tagged as "my adopted father’ and there is a phrase
“Not expecting his friends to keep him entertained at dinner or to travel with him (unless they wanted to). and anyone who had to stay behind to take care of somethings always found him the same when he returned.”
Can someone explain to mw what the last phrase “same when he returned” means?

u/thoughtfullycatholic has an accurate take on Stoicism, but I think chapter one is MC’s roll call of every positive character trait he was exposed to growing up, and hopes influenced him. In this line it’s a lack of self entitlement and resentment.
