So I bought a TP Link Archer AX53 this Black Friday to help my network at home. I have a BT smart hub 2 with a 900Mbps connection, I was using an old TP link as an AP (my rooms are Ethernet wired in) that had a max of 300 Mbps throughput (TL-WA801N) and was getting 250 Mbps which was fine.

This AX53 now supports a lot more (the box states 574 on 2.4Ghz and 2402 on 5Ghz). but on the laptop in the next room via 5Gzh I get 290Mbps and on the iPhone I get 250-270Mbps - also on 5Ghz. I can see which frequency they’re on via the router page.

If I go close with the iPhone I do get 500-550Mbps but being on 5Ghz I would expect this to be higher.

Nothing else is working on the network, in that it’s just idle devices.

The range is better which is what I mainly wanted but having spent the ££ I would like the best performance possible. I also have a Netgear WAX202-100EUS which I bought at the same time, though it’s still boxed. I’m likely to send the worse one back but was hoping I wouldnt need to even open this with the TP link just working wonders but sadly I think not the case.

So to clarify the AX53 is set up in AP mode, a static IP and it’s wired in via ethernet to the modem/router that’s downstairs.

Any advise? Maybe the Netgear being an AP specific product it would be the better option and give better results?
