I live outside of the US and a few folks at at my work follow the NBA. I’ve picked the Grizzlies as my team, to get involved a bit more and try and start watching more basketball. Any resources, videos or anecdotes would be very appreciated!

Historically (last 15-20 years) the Grizzlies have been a mid-level team that usually made it to the playoffs but never got very far (conference finals only once, we lost). We’ve been on the edge of greatness a couple times, but always stumbled due to injuries, mistakes, or tough match-ups.

However, despite this lack of success, we like to think that other teams hate playing us. One of our mottos is “Grit n Grind”, meaning we always play tough, physical basketball and always put in the effort to make the other team work hard to beat us. Because of this tough, defensive-focused play style, even if a team beats us in a playoff series, they come away exhausted.

Until the last few years, the Grizzlies never had a high caliber “star player” like Ja Morant. We didn’t win by one person going out and scoring 40 points, we won as a team. We found success with the “unsung heroes” of the NBA like Mike Conley, Tony Allen.

When Ja was drafted, we felt like we were finally about to achieve greatness. Between him and Jaren Jackson Jr and Desmond Bane, we have 3 all- star caliber players. With the right pieces around them, this core 3 should really be able to at least get us back to the conference finals. But unfortunately there have been some major roadblocks along the way.

This year, we are nowhere near the edge of greatness and we’ll be very lucky if we make the playoffs at all. This is a HUGE swing compared to last season, when we were the 1st, 2nd, or 3rd best team in our conference throughout the season. This swing from potential contenders to bottom of the league this year has a lot of people in despair.

It’s mainly due to injuries and Ja’s 25 game suspension, but we’re also seeing a lack of effort from the players that ARE healthy (except Desmond Bane, love that guy). It seems like some of them are falling into despair a bit too.

Oof. Not a great time to be joining the fans but we’re happy to have you all the same. Team’s going through it right now, but once everyone is healthy/not suspended it SHOULD be better.

I grew up in Memphis and have been a fan of this team since like 03’. Memphis has had its tough times but at the core it’s a hardworking city and the team resembles that. Get ready to grind

Thank you for the reality check and a warm welcome.

I’m an Arsenal fan (UK Soccer) and know a thing or two about suffering - here for the grind.

Just a warning, the Grizzlies are going to test you more than Arsenal.

I’m not sure if the Bally Sports app works outside of the US, hell I’m not even sure it works inside the US most of the time, but it has a subscription service where you can watch the games. Live or replays.

Welcome to the squad. It’s a bit of a rough patch due to injuries and our star player being suspended, but he’ll be back on Dec 19 and hopefully we can get some healthy bodies back on the court with him. I’ve been following the team since they came here from Vancouver Canada in 2000. Fun fact for me: At the time Jason Williams was my favorite player to watch. Only a couple weeks after it was announced that Memphis were getting the grizzlies it was also announced that we had traded for Jason Williams, so the same time my city got an NBA team, we also got my favorite player. Do a YouTube search of “Jason Williams passes” if you aren’t familiar and you’ll see why he was so fun to watch.

Welcome, might look a little dreary in the sub currently 😂

For videos, I mean the obvious would be YouTube. There’s also a ton of behind the scenes, interviews, etc. on the YouTube channel and Instagram account “Grind City Media.” I know of two Grizzlies podcasts on Spotify, “Locked on Grizzlies,” and “Grits and Grinds” my personal favorite. Grind City Media, Commercial Appeal, and some other websites have a lot of articles on Grizzlies stuff.

If you need anything else or have any other questions be free to ask!

welcome, I’m a UK grizz fan and it’s been awesome supporting them (aside from yknow… this season). we’re (normally) a scrappy team that plays strong defense and exciting offense. this video has some fun history stuff in it if you wanna get a bit more familiar with the grizzlies of the previous decade (grit n grind era). check out some desmond bane highlights, check out some santi aldama highlights, and pray for steven adam’s knees
