I am looking at a 440i convertible (2024) for my wife. In addition I’m considering an A/S5 or E 4MATIC (slightly used). The BMW is terrific looking and I really like it. BUT as it’s RWD and not AWD I am hesitant. I live in a Houston Suburb, so most of the time AWD is nice to have but not really needed. There are times though, heavy rain, and the rare snow (which is always light but always a nightmare because Houston has no snow clearing truck/fleet of any significance).
My question is, how does a RWD BMW fare in less than ideal road conditions? Poor, fair/average/ good? My wife is early 50’s and is a good driver, won’t take unnecessary risks like a teenager, but things happen and want her to have a safe car. Optimal performance isn’t the goal, it’s enabling her to enjoy having the top down on days that allow it and having a worry free (as much as possible) drive.
Appreciate the input and opinions on the differences.
