Patriots having a projected top 3 pick is a foreign language to fans like myself. Was born in 2001 and all I’ve known is the Patriots being competitive. Things eventually have to change though and now it’s time to rebuild.

But for the older Patriots fans who witnessed the low years before the dynasty, how does this team compare to them? We had some real stinker years in 90 and 92 winning 3 games combined. Along with a few years of 5-11 and 6-10 throughout those times as well.

Is this the lowest you’ve seen or it still doesn’t compare to some of the pre Brady era Patriots?

I’ll take a different angle on it. It was much worse in the late 80’s/early 90s because ownership stunk, coaching stunk, the players stunk with the exception of a few lovable guys that were gems on an otherwise bad team- but it all sucked and there was almost no hope of turning it around because there was complete dysfunction everywhere.

Today, we have a good ownership group and until recently had a highly competent coaching staff. You can say BB is past his prime and so be it but having him past his prime is still way better than the sad sacks that coached the Pats prior to Parcells arrival.

Parcells coming onboard and the drafting of Drew Bledsoe #1 overall in addition to Kraft buying the team really changed the feel of the whole organization and so by the mid-90’s things were looking a lot better. They were a much more professional organization with a good direction and outlook with a franchise QB who at the time was putting up all time great production.

Today there is nowhere near the level of hopelessness that existed pre Kraft and Parcells. We are down but not out and we can turn it around fairly quickly if we find our franchise QB and figure out the front office and improve the drafting in the next few years.

We have a solid defense when healthy and really are a few offensive pieces away from being at least respectable. The reality is though without a true franchise QB it will be hard to be anything other than a top half of the league team. We need a true franchise QB and should do everything we can to get one.
