I always assumed Bedrock is Java’s performant and efficient version to be able to run on consoles, handheld and mobile devices, whilst Java was kept as the modding alternative. And it was always like that, because there was no good alternative for smaller or less performant game devices.
But now, what’s stopping Mojang from implementing FSR 3.0 upscaling and sharpening technology to Java, which should fundamentally work on any device that currently runs minecraft, thus safeguarding the performance and efficiency gains in the coding, and stopping bedrock development entirely, thus redirecting all the time spent re-coding and validating both game versions, also in favor of introducing much more new content to minecraft?
In my head, minecraft would also be the perfect candidate for introducing upscaling, given the simplicity of the graphics and the benefits of sharpening technology over traditional anti-aliasing tech.
I know killing off bedrock entirely in favor of third party software is a bold suggestion to make, but I don’t see a fault in the logic here, to me it sounds like a win-win for the playerbase and the devs. I’m happy to hear any opinions, or arguments against the idea.
