Well, I missed the opportunity to try to reserve an affordable hotel/airbnb/campsite around Kerrville, TX for the total eclipse coming up in April 2024. Thankfully, I live in San Antonio which is only 50 miles away, but I was wondering if anyone in here has travelled for big events in the past and experienced bad traffic as people were moving to observe it. I’m wondering if I will regret trying to travel towards the Hill Country for the eclipse and should just stay home and watch from a nearby park instead.

I flew to Utah and rented a camper for the annular solar eclipse last month. We drove down to Capitol Reef National Park and found one of the last decent spots available at a BLM site. We got really lucky. They even had a couple of port-a-potties set up (they were the cleanest ones I’ve ever seen in my life). Anyway, we stayed an extra night, so we didn’t really deal with any traffic going or leaving.
