Been a pretty fun start to the season. Lot of excitement coming into the year due to the new additions, the J’s getting more into their prime, and also with Coach Mazzulla finally getting the staff he wants along with a full year and camp as a head coach under his belt.

But what has shocked you the most so far?

For me it’s gotta be the 2 man game between JB and KP. 2 all stars working well together isn’t uncommon but I never expected this kind of chemistry and bond between these two to be so seamless so quickly. It’s awesome to watch out there.

Honestly, Porzingis. I knew he played really well for the Wizards but I wasn’t expecting him to come in and make such a big impact as fast as he has.

Should be seeing a lot more of this answer here. There were a LOT of vocal KP haters before the season started

    The defensive scheme.

I thought it would take much longer for everyone to “get the new system” but it hasn’t. Testament to the willingness and talent of the players.

Pritchard is very playable in the playoffs with this defensive scheme. I am…flabbergasted, really.

Honestly, I did come in with sky high expectations. That being said the biggest deviation from my expectations is that even with KP, we are STILL failing to move the ball around or sufficiently create off-ball opportunities at a rate that is reasonable. We are STILL falling into iso habits and taking turns. They’ve shown glimpses of what’s possible, and the JB/KP pairing has been the source of a lot of those glimpses, but they need to be doing that shit every half court possession. The Bulls game showed some promise: guys were cutting to the basket, guys were crashing the boards for rebounds, but even in the Bulls game, when we might have needed to win by 45 or 50 and legit could have (fortunately the Nets won so we didn’t need to) you still had the starters getting lazy half way through the 4th and taking their foot off the gas. I honestly think they put the bench back in with 2 minutes left because the bench was still trying and the starters weren’t. We are not being ruthless enough, and its costing us at times.

Porzingis fitting as well as he did so quickly was the most surprising for me.

And that I was able to emotionally move on from us trading Marcus Smart. Can’t believe the season he’s having on the Grizzlies

PP and Hauser are just about as good as any other 7th or 8th man in the league

Hauser didn’t surprise me one bit he showed his stuff early last season and especially in the G League. What has surprised me most is how well KP and JB play off each other for sure. I thought it would be the Tatum and Porzingus show but Jaylen has shown he can produce effectively with another big man in terms of assists as well as scoring. I am also surprised that Brissett cannot crack the rotation despite us being short at the big position but for the minutes he’s been out there he’s been alright
