I’m currently using a mini desktop pc Acer Aspire XC - Desktop Intel Core i3-10105 3.70GHz 8GB RAM 256GB SSD W10H with 2 hdd drives over usb as a 15 TB media server with multiple(10-15) podman containers. Looking to setup a dedicated NAS machine with home media duties along with nextcloud for managing and backing up of personal photos and videos. Intend to setup a NAS OS with some uptime guarantee with UNRAID/TrueNAS/snapraid for the media server and automate backup of personal data.

I have 2 paths I could take:

  1. Reuse the PC above for parts and purchase LGA1200 motherboard for 70-80 bucks and some cheap used ram in addition to the 8GB from the above PC.

  2. Lookout for a combo deal on 12th/13th gen processor (probably for 250-300) with lga1700 socket and sell of the mini PC that I currently have (hope I can sell it).

Between both these paths I think the case, psu and any cache drives, ssd etc are a common expense. Need suggestions on the best path forward for my needs.

Thanks.
