First, yeah Gano missed a rough one earlier and yeah of course it’s easy to say “Barkley easily would’ve got the first if we went for it in 4th and 1”.
On the decision to go for the kick vs try to convert the 4th, I mean you all saw how it played out. The defense was on the field all day and the Jets knew we were running every single play. With Gano being exceptional over the last 10 years inside 40 and a defense that has hardly had a second to rest, it was the right call to take the points and force the Jets to work for the touchdown vs getting into field goal range. If Saquon took the ball and got stuffed or Devito tried to sneak (which btw had been embarrassingly unsuccessful this season to date on our past attempts) and failed, yall would still be calling for Dabolls head for not kicking it. That was the right call.
Now the kick, yeah he fuckin missed and it wasn’t even close. But how is no one mentioning the D lineman that tried to do his best Myles Garrett and honestly nailed it?? If Gano kicked the ball where he wanted to that was definitely going to be blocked and from there, chances were decent to probable that it would’ve been picked up and returned deep into our side or scored a TD. He had no choice but to kick around the Jets player to give us the best chance in that moment to retain the win.
It sucks that the game went the way it did, but this particular moment is not the one to execute Daboll and Gano on. They’ll both provide (and arguably have already) plenty of other opportunities to call for their heads anyway.
