Hey all. 2013 chevy malibu ltz (2.5l) has been slurping oil since I got it a few years back. Literally like a qt 2-3 times a month.

  • Performance is fine… no issues starting up, accelerating, no overheating
  • entered limp mode and threw a high oil pressure code 6mo ago, hasn’t done it again since. No other codes.
  • get some smoke in my exhaust when first starting it up. I’ve looked before but I didn’t notice this until recently
  • No OBVIOUS leaks, but I don’t know where to check
  • I replaced pcv valves hoping that would fix the issue, no luck. Oddly enough, the old valve had a hole in it.
  • didn’t notice any oil on my spark plugs when changing them, but I wasn’t looking.
  • no foam on oil cap
  • I’ve had to fill my coolant multiple times over the last 6mo. This is new.

Not sure where to go from here. It seems pretty obvious that I’m looking at gaskets or pistons… I was thinking about renting a compression tool and doing that plus a wet test.

Also have a bearing that needs replacing, but I’m starting to think that the oil issue is more pressing.

Thoughts?

Cardboard is easy, I’ll do that tomorrow!

Oil and coolant look pretty normal, to me anyways. No weird discoloration.

So, the exhaust… it isn’t like, billowing smoke or anything like that. I’ve tried to look for discoloration in the past and I can never tell what normal looks like. I had someone following me a few weeks ago and they were pretty confident I was burning some oil when I turned onto a main road.
