So I’m currently in an adventure of restoring a car I’ve owned since 2015 and which has almost 260.000km - it’s a Volvo T4 from 2000, 200hp from factory, wishing to tune it up to around 400hp which is pretty doable in those first generation engines.

Suspension is one of the things I want to change first and I’ve seen some KW coilovers that everyone praises how they change the behaviour of the car for good. However, after talking the workshop where I always bring my cars to he told me that I would be better avoiding coilovers, they tend to be problematic in the long-run and unless you’ve got a real sportscar is not really necessary.

Which are your thoughts on coilovers? Which is their extra maintenance and why would they be problematic in the long run?

    That’s not good at all :(, the bad thing with this model is the lack of suspension options available.

    For example, Bilstein only got the OEM spec B4s but no B6, B8, etc.

    Sachs has got some options, but they aren’t the Super Touring as far as the stock I’ve seen goes…

    And then coilovers, either BC or KW (probably I could mount Evo III TEIN’s since the platform is the same but that’s risking it all…)

    Regarding engine tune, would forged components make it more “reliable”? I know the pistons are factory forged already, but the rest isn’t. Or probably as is but with an easier tune, 280 ~ 300 hp if that seems more reasonable.
