Confession: I missed the game last night because I was at Godzilla: Minus One with my brother

I gotta say, it’s unlike any other Godzilla movie I’ve ever seen.

American Godzilla movies are dumb popcorn flicks with flashy CGI

Most Japanese Godzilla movies are campy and feature guys in rubber suits bumping into each other

G:M1 feels closest to the original Godzilla (1954) in terms of tone, but it’s more serious and character-driven.

!The characters are all survivors of WWII, whether they were on the battlefront or victims of firebombing in Tokyo. The core of the movie is how these people balance the human desire to survive with the obligation to serve and protect their country.!< It’s a really fascinating look at postwar Japan, there just happens to be a kaiju stomping around in the background.

I usually enjoy Godzilla movies for the big monster fights, but Godzilla was pretty easily my least favorite part of this movie (but was still cool)
