I don’t get it. This team traded for Trey Lance a few months ago, absorbing his pretty large contract in the process. Lance is a former 3rd overall pick whose largely unproven (potential?). But, he’s the 3rd stringer, he hasn’t seen the field unlike backup Cooper Rush, who to be honest, just doesn’t have Lance’s ceiling (even though he’s definitely a serviceable backup. Also, Dak’s had a solid season, there’s no realistic outcome where Lance replaces him. So like, what’s the plan here? Explain it to me like I’m ten years old because I really don’t get it.

Dude got drafted 3rd overall because he was riding Carson Wentz’s coattail when he was still relevant. He shat the bed in SF where Brock Purdy, “Mr. Irrelevant” has balled out in SF’s QB-friendly environment (more than just their offensive game plan, their coaching is extremely beneficial for QB’s).

What you do in college - in the FCS - means nothing in the NFL.

Dak’s had more than a “solid season.” He’s seriously in contention for best QB in the entire NFL. The only QB who’s truely playing on his level is Lamar. Mahomes doesn’t have the weapons. Hurts is playing very well, but he’s gotten WAY MORE than his fair share of bail-outs. Burrow went down. Allen plays too fast & loose. Honestly, I’ve not seen any Texans games this year, but Stroud’s name keeps popping up…

Players get hurt in the NFL, though. Everyone’s had multiple seasons where both their QB1 and QB2 end up going down - it comes with the territory of playing the position who handles the ball on 95+% of all offensive snaps… The front office felt like we were comfortable with Lance’s relative value as an insurance.

There’s not much chance he ever sees another snap as any team’s starting QB in the NFL unless someone gets injured. He’s blown that chance.

The Cowboys have a very good roster. If Dak goes down, I am sorry Cooper is not the answer in a deep playoff run. The upside for Trey is so much higher.

There are a lot of teams using their 2nd QB right now. And it ain’t pretty.
