As much of us have struggled to wonder what on earth happened to our defense the past few years (as much as we can’t stand Todd, he had at least shown some competence in this area), I can’t help but think we have a huge leadership vacuum on defense (and even perhaps as a team) right now.

Suh and JPP were past thier prime with us, but the sheer toughness and attitude they brought down in and down out was invaluable. Suh wasn’t the best at pass rushing in Tampa, but still fought every down and was still elite against the run. JPP wasn’t the down in down out force he was with NY, but would come up with splash plays when we needed them (sacks, TFLs…hell even interceptions).

I’m happy with Vea and Kancey as our future, but I’m hoping to see a greater emphasis on veteran leadership as we move forward.

    Jordan Whitehead also was great in run support. Our rush defense slipped once he and Suh left
