I’ve tried nearly every Souls-like out there, from the original Lords of the Fallen to the new one, Nioh 1 and 2, The Surge 1 and 2, on and on I could list them.

Some feel close to a Fromsoft game but like a lower budget version, while others feel downright awful to my by comparison.

But as I played through the first 8 hours of Lies of P I realized something. I don’t want games that are similar to From Software’s great games… I want games that are nearly identical to them.

Lies of P is finally the first game where it just feels natural to explore the world, dole out damage, dodge and block. It feels so much like Bloodborne I could honestly believe it was made by From.

Even the other “almost close enough” game, Lords of the Fallen 2023 (God I hate that they named it the same) felt off to me. The world felt bland and not fun to explore, the combat wasn’t quite as tight as I would have liked. I hope to go back to it someday and enjoy it more, but for now I’ve set it aside.

TLDR:

Lies of P is a strange concept, based on the story of Pinocchio, but it’s the best From Software game I’ve played to date that wasn’t made by them. Souls fans, and especially Bloodborne fans should pick it up.

Agreed. I’m a huge fan of Remnant. I constantly tell people to play Remnant 2.

That said, some major Souls fans I know don’t consider it to be a Souls-like, and they’re not necessarily wrong. For one thing, you don’t lose anything when you die in Remnant aside from a usually small bit of time. For another, Remnant 2 has four difficulty tiers you can select from (and jump back and forth on in ‘Adventure mode’).

Personally, I feel it still has a similar atmosphere to Souls games, and the way you can find and / or piece together the lore of the worlds also feels Souls-like. Also, when it comes to having lots of secrets you really have to explore and think to uncover, Remnant 2 definitely at least matches anything else out there, and surpasses most.
