R6 has made me a better medical student

I am a second year medical student in the United States and silver MMR. In our medical training, we have simulation exercises with a practice ICU (with computer monitors, lab values, a practice dummy, etc.) to work through situations that might arise in real life. We work in a team of 5 to help the patient recover (usually by giving some combination of medication and monitoring for heart rate/blood pressure/lab values).

Here’s where R6 comes in: I usually play Ying/Smoke and entry fragger in my games. Even saying something as simples as “Throwing candela” or "yellow stairs” or “Vigil get hatches” has helped me immensely in my medical training. Why? Because if you aren’t used to saying something like that, you aren’t going to say it in real situations. Half the time in my simulations, we’re just staring at the practice dummy expecting something to change, and I have to bring up something I see (“blood pressure is 85/40” “Potassium is low”). My team sees these values because they’re obviously smart, but in serious situations like being down 3-6 in your ranked game, or when a patient is dying in front of your eyes because of your inaction, confirming that everyone is on the same page is soooo important to success. But it goes deeper than that. Making plans for which sites to defend, making rotates, keeping team morale high, adapting to the other team’s playstyle, thinking on your feet mid-round, these all have tangible value in a team setting outside of just video games.

So anyways, make sure to com during your games. The carry over to team settings in work or school is really impressive.
