I’ve been umming and erring about getting a Steam Deck pretty much ever since it came out and by the sounds of it, by now, MANY issues have been fixed and it’s just gotten better and will continue to get better.
I mostly play Euro/American truck simulator, Astroneer, Forza Horizon 4/5, no shooters really as I prefer mouse+keyboard for that and mostly not very demanding games. I would most likely end up tinkering with emulation too, I already have a Retroid 3+ and the Deck just seems like a massively more powerful version of it which is neat. Plus I enjoy tinkering.
One of my “concerns” is is that since I would use it mostly at home that it would be plugged in 90% of the time. Any longterm data yet on how bad that is for the battery, if at all?
I would also use it plugged into the TV a lot of the time. So plugged into the charger and/or the TV most of the time makes me consider just getting one of those miniPCs with a powerful APU instead. No messing around with compatibility and no need to get used to SteamOS, I already have bluetooth keyboard+mouse and a dualshock4, making most of the Steam Deck hardware unused if that makes sense.
I’ve had Steam for many years and have had good experience with Valve so far however I’ve never bought hardware from them. How good is support and RMA? I’m in the UK btw.
What do you think?
