I’m a Novak fan and admire his steadfastness: and tenacity on the tennis court. And I also believe he’s not an anti-vaxxer, since his entire team, staff and family are vaccinated. Everyone but his wife.

But he should’ve taken the vaccine. If he was hesitant about the Pfizer or Moderna shot (due to unknown long term adverse effects:), he could’ve gone for the AstraZeneca shot.

That being said, doing what he did this year, returning to the countries that deported him/denied him entry, remain unbeaten in both and return with 4 trophies was a testament to his power of will and fortitude.

Agreed, and that’s a fair take. I didn’t share this to spark debate on the vaccine or anything, as I took it 3x. I shared it to show his answer about the question “are you willing to forego the opportunity to go down as the greatest?”

After the events of AO 2022, some people thought Djokovic missed a golden opportunity and was done since he was losing matches to people he shouldn’t be losing matches to for a few months. He said in this interview he was willing to forgo the opportunity to become greatest if it meant standing by his principles. He was able to achieve both. After this interview, he won 4/6 majors he entered in. He finaled in 5/6, and the one where he didn’t final was when he lost to the eventual champion in the quarterfinal. Just shows what a champion he is. Sticking by his principles and still becoming the greatest.

When the interviewer asks “are you willing to forego the title of the greatest player” and tries to provoke Novak with his theatrical tone, Novak very calmly and confidently smiles and replies “yes” and look where we are now today.

I’m sorry but what is there to admire about this interview? I am pro-choice too but there’s a difference between getting an abortion for your own personal benefit and getting a vaccine as part of your civic duty. Covid wrecked havoc in most of our lives and I still have friends and family who are struggling to go back to normalcy post-pandemic so for him to go out and declare proudly that he won’t get the vaccine is in fact irresponsible and makes him a poster boy for the anti vaxxer weirdos whether y’all like it or not. Novak fans should know that while you can still admire Novak for his accomplishments but you don’t have to praise him for everything he does off court. This should apply to all tennis players actually.
