Hi all, I know these past few weeks have been rough, so I’m trying to look on the bright side right now about Brock Purdy, so I thought I’d share these facts about Purdy’s performance so far:

According to ESPN, Brock Purdy is projected to throw for 4,320 yards, 26 touchdowns, 11 interceptions, completing 68.3% of passes, and have a passer rating of 105.4 this season. For some comparison, Jeff Garcia is the 49ers’ single-season pass yards leader with 4,278 yards. Therefore, Purdy is on pace to become the 49ers’ single-season pass yards leader this season, and potentially be the first 49ers quarterback to make the Pro Bowl since Garcia.

Furthermore, it is interesting to compare Purdy’s hypothetical stats to other great 49ers quarterback seasons:

1981 Joe Montana:

  • Completion Percentage: 63.7%
  • Passing Yards: 3,565
  • Passing Touchdowns: 19
  • Interceptions: 12

1994 Steve Young:

  • Completion Percentage: 70.3%
  • Passing Yards: 3,969
  • Passing Touchdowns: 35
  • Interceptions: 10

Hypothetical 2023 Brock Purdy:

  • Completion Percentage: 68.3%
  • Passing Yards: 4,320
  • Passing Touchdowns: 26
  • Interceptions: 11

One more note, Montana engineered multilple 4th quarter comebacks in 1981, and Young’s 1994 49ers didn’t have to pass that much late in games due to big leads.

Either he’s goin to bounce back and return to his previous form or this is him and he’s going to throw INTs like most QBs in the league. It’s up to Kyle and the defense to put him into positions to succeed. Jimmy G was a turnover machine but our defense was good enough to overcome his deficiencies. If our Defense is going to be middle of the pack things don’t bode well for Purdy IMO.
