Hear me out. Aiyuk is a stud, no doubt. Lots of talk lately of how he’s our true WR1 and to pay him whatever it takes to keep him next year. However, this three game losing stretch has me thinking that Deebo is the WR that does more for the team and is almost impossible to replace. There’s a dozen or more Aiyuk’s in the league. A good route runner with B+ hands. Athletic for sure but he’s not Moss’ing people, running bye them, or over & through them. He mostly catches 15-20 yard crossing routes and tacks on another 10-15 yards because he’s so open. People say our QB is the beneficiary of the system and the weapons, but maybe Aiyuk is too? Not saying he’s not a great player, but he is replaceable and especially replaceable if he’s going to ask for a 25 mil+ per year contract this off season. Deebo and CMC on the field at the same time causes chaos for the defenses. CMC and Aiyuk, not as much. Deebo can take over a game, even before CMC got here. Could we not plug in almost any of the top 30 WRs in the league and our offense would still be almost the same? Not saying there are 30 better WRs than Aiyuk just saying there are 30 that could do his job in this offense.

With all that said, I think Niners best chance to win a ring this year and continue to be good is to go get Surtain. Not sure if he’s even on the trade block (rumors are all over the place) or what the Broncos are asking for him but if it’s reasonable, I think we go get him and take our chances on drafting a WR to replace Aiyuk next year or look for a cheaper option to shore up the secondary.
