Title says it all. I think remakes arent viable for GOTY.

    I think a ground up remake like FF7 or RE4 should qualify, since everything about the game was remade. I think remakes like Demon’s Souls and TLOU Part 1 shouldn’t qualify, since these games still use the original game as a base.

    Of course the should be considered for GOTY. They are a game built from the ground up. Whether they made changes or not, if it’s a great game, then it deserves it. Maybe the original version was great but didn’t win at the time. It’s great to give it another chance.

    Video Game Awards are about awarding great work, not drawing arbitrary lines to discredit it. And many games are either too old or the remakes were too big of a leap that they look/feel like a brand new game to most current gamers.

    Resident Evil 2 / 4 Remake is so different from the original, it is it’s own game

    Yeah I disagree with this. To me it depends how different the remake is. RE4 feels incredibly different to the original. Or for instance ff7 remake. However something like Dead Space remake, probably not so much as that is essentially just a graphics upgrade.
