First, I really think John Scott was a serious downgrade from Todd Wash - and the line has gotten worse. The fact that a 36 year old got off his couch and was one of two sacks and a helluva hit (don’t agree roughing) is damning.
I look at the decline throughout the season as an indicator that Wash’s work was replaced by Scott as the season has wore on and it’s not working.
But worst of all is Hutch’s stalled development. Yeah, yeah pressures. But they are late pressures. I don’t see him having any moves to beat linemen. It seems like everything is just a bull rush or trying to get around guys and they’ve figured him out. I’m hoping Irvin can teach him some stuff, and I know Houston is out - but Hutch was good before Houston burst on the scene last year. He needs more than just other help - he needs some coaching. I hope MCDC is paying attention to this and maybe get some help for Scott. Get the line better and AG will seem like a lot better DC.
Hutch isn’t putting up sacks but he’s putting up pressures. The Irvin sack was a result of one of Hutchs pressure.
He also was really good against run.
I will say he looked gassed by the third quarter.
But I’d argue Hutch has been having a much better year compared to last. He’s not putting up numbers but he’s been impactful. Kinda like a early Max Crosby. He’s just not able to finish yet. But that doesnt mean he isn’t providing value.
I will say that Hutch and alim have issues of randomly disappearing in games. This one alim had the injury as a excuse, but both guys have had issues staying hot throughout a full 4 quarters.
So if you wanna say Hutch disappears, I’m not gonna argue with you. But he absolutely has been playing better than his rookie year.
