Pro football Reference says that Andrew Van Ginkel was a starting 3-4 LOLB in 2020 under Brian Flores, but in 2021 he’s listed as a RLB in a 4-3 defense. I thought Brian Flores ran a 3-4 defense? Did anything change schematically from 2020 to 2021, or is PFR wrong?
Also, it seems like AVG was a good starting caliber player under Flores, even if the sack totals were low. His PFF grade in 2020 was 79.3, and his PFF grade in 2021 was 61.8 even though his run defense and pass rush grades were 71.7 and 70.1 respectively. If AVG was good, then why was he replaced by Bradley Chubb and Jaelan Phillips?
The math isn’t mathing for me. Could someone go in depth and explain his career arc for the Dolphins, and why he was replaced despite being heralded as an impact player by teammates?
