This team needs a point gaurd and this franchise has needed one in the worst way since October 08. You don’t win in basketball on any level without a point. It’s the most underrated position in sports.

Phoenix went from 19 wins to 35 because they picked up Rick Rubio. Then they went and got Chris Paul. I’ve been watching the NBA for 40 years plus. Never saw a team win without an all star caliber point. Maybe the Heat 10 years ago?

If Weaver wanted Ivey to be the point ,he should have hired a coach that had the vision to mold him into one the way Larry Brown did with Chauncey. Maybe that’s what Monty is doing with Hayes?? Lol…they thought Cade was a future point and Ivey the 2, or they weren’t sure? What was the vision?

DJ Augustine, Stuckey, Iverson, Jennings, Reggie Jackson…long list of failed attempts at fielding a point gaurd.

Going into the draft, I feel like most viewed Ivey as a SG, not a PG. The way he played his rookie year w/o Cade gave some false belief Ivey can be PG, but remember his backcourt mate was usually Killian or Cojo.

IMO Ivey was essentially “Cade” last season in the role he was used. But I don’t think Weaver ever viewed him as a PG. Best thing Detroit has going for them is Cade can be a Point Forward allowing two more guards to also start alongside him. I think this is the current trajectory for Cade.

If Cade continues to play better off ball. Isiah Collier becomes a real option at top of draft.
