I read a year or two ago people were buying used hard drives in bulk and stress testing them in something like a 40% failure rate and keeping the 60%, so basically buying 10 hard drives to get six. Does someone have information on this?

I use serverpartdeals.com for my stuff. They usually have a 2 year warranty. The drives are obviously not as reliable as a brand new one but they’re cheap so buy more!

Beware the noise levels of the enterprise drives if you keep it all in the living room or something. You’ll hear it if they’re running.
