Just an opinion piece so sorry if I boil your blood .

If we are still relatively healthy and we are just above or below .500 with this roster at the mid way point of the season here are the changes I think should be done .

Imo New Orleans basketball probably has the best opportunity to win it all now then they’ll ever have so drastic changes need to be made if we remain mediocre

Step 1. Fire Willie and let borrego coach for the rest of the year as an experiment . If we see improvement keep him . If not then look elsewhere

Step 2. End the Ingram Zion experiment . Imo if both are healthy by allstar break it’s more than enough of a sample size to call it quits . Both Zion and Ingram are great players . I love them both but their skill sets just don’t cross over well at all . Ingram paired with a star who makes a living only in the paint imo doesn’t work . You pair Ingram up with someone like SGA and they’ll be unstoppable . However I feel like Zion is overall the better player and when healthy can seriously be a generational talent . So the obvious choice here is to let Ingram go …

Ingram can easily attain a great trade package . We don’t need a star in return but we can acquire much needed personal to cover our current weaknesses . Cleveland is another struggling team right now that I feel both teams could benefit from an Ingram trade .

Step 3. Build around Zion , trey , herb and hawk as the cornerstone pieces. IMO , I really can’t see why trey can’t develop into an even nicer and more complete player than Ingram is . Offloading Ingram solves the current jam for minutes currently now that everyone’s back and will allow us to sign him long term . Give him the starter spot and let him strive. Hawk will be a star eventually and herb is herb .

In three seasons time a hawk , trey , herb Zion starting lineup is such a dominant will balanced core I don’t see how it can fail .

A post like this is probably gonna cop some backlash so sorry if I rustled some feathers

Without addressing anything else, I don’t see how SGA and BI are compatible. Both are ball dominant players that use the ball to get to their spots. SGA thrives with a few shooters, Chet and Giddey running the point. They don’t need another ball dominant player.

this would literally fix none of our problems lol

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, what we need is a somewhat reliable rim protector. JV, Nance, zeller, JRE, and even zion offer very little in the way of rim defense and currently also have zero impact in the way of deterring rim attempts. we simply don’t have a single guy on the roster who makes even guards on the opposing team Second guess attacking the rim.

unfortunately that means JV is probably on the block at the deadline
