Even if the team signs Kirk, there is a real shot that they take a QB in the first round due to the fact that Kirk is coming off a major injury + is getting old :(
Odds are that the team will be within the middle part of the first and will have a shot at the QB 3/4 in this class, but who would that be?
In terms of pure tools, youth, and upside, taking McCarthy to learn behind Kirk could be a great way to maximize McCarthy’s great arm talent and mobility while improving his sense of pressure, anticipation, etc. However, I believe he is easily one of the more raw guys that could in the first.
When it comes to a guy being able to just sling the rock and be more pro ready, Penix could be a great QB to take to have a similar style offense that is built around passing the ball. The only concerns with him are age, injury history, and mobility. However, the arm talent is fully there and he has an argument to have the strongest arm in the class
However, a happy medium of a guy with great tools who can make an early impact would be Jayden Daniels. The team would need to jump into the early teens to get him, but he is an very good runner that has deeply improved his deep ball. The only real issue is that he has had only one real year of solid production, and is on the older side.
There’s also potential late first/early second guys in Ewers and Nix that can also be on the board. What would be your ideal QB post-Kirk?
