Don’t let the final score fool you: this was a systematic blowout through and through by the Celtics. The Wizards didn’t have a chance from when the game tipped off. Here are my 5 points from tonight’s tilt against Boston:
- We had no answer for Boston’s offense. It wasn’t even the atrocious defense. That by itself was a problem, but there was no defense for ANY of their star players. Brown was having his way with the same move over and over and over again. We had no bigs out there, so KP was feasting. Tatum ate as usual. We didn’t have a single player out there that looked like they were causing any sort of problems for the Celtics. A total shitshow on defense, and we were way overpowered with the firepower the C’s brought. They brought a bazooka to a knife fight.
- Kuzma was the only player who had anything going tonight, and it was tough for him because with no one else considered a threat for the C’s, the defense was locked in on him and he had to take bad shots to get his buckets. He managed to get 21 points and 5 boards and 4 assists, but it was tough for him to get going. It was tough for the 1B JP to get going as well. Poole had no chance against a premier guard defender in Holiday tonight to get going. He hit a couple of lucky shots here and there, but he was way overmatched and that much was clear.
- Now time for the one shining bright light from this game: Eugene Omoruyi. Bet you didn’t expect that did you. Geno was out there HUSTLING. He was snagging boards and it looked like he was a grown man playing amongst kids. 14 points and 6 boards in just 12 minutes. He was one of the few + players out there for the Wizards. It wasn’t just all layups and dunks. He showed us his range with a three, and hit a couple FTs too. He may be undersized, but he has the HUSTLE and the WANT TO and he has a nice touch from range. I loved what I saw from Geno, and past sample sizes show much of the same. Would love to see how he fares in 5-10 minutes a night, especially if this Gaff absence is going to be extended. We need a HUSTLER out there, because there was absolutely 0 energy from the Wiz tonight.
- I don’t know why Kispert got his number called only 6 times tonight. Of those 6 times he hit three threes. He needs to be getting 10 shots nightly. There is no excuse for him not getting at least 10 shots a night, especially when he is hitting them. That is squarely on WUJ. WUJ needs to make sure that he can get his shots up and is in a rhythm and growing. He can’t keep icing out his best shooter. It makes no sense whatsoever.
- The Wizards just need to play harder. I get that it may seem stupid to say that when they were down 35+ but there was just no effort. Even if you are overmatched and lack talent, what you can make it up for is with WANT TO and EFFORT, and there is absolutely 0 on this Wizards team. You can only point to the players for so long. Many people wanted to point to Brad and the veteran cast in past years for the lack of effort on this team, but 3 games in, it’s still an issue. I’m going to wait till we play at least 10 or 15 games before assigning blame, but if a lack of effort is an issue that carries over from several seasons, it’s time that the coach gets some blame too.
Can I just say that BOS commentators were insufferable? I get that you’re up by 30 points, and that you’re a title favorite, but they have no respect for the opposition whatsoever. They were disrespecting everybody and the Wizards as a whole. Terrible fanbase, terrible city, and apparently terrible commentators. Overrated ass team. Anyhow, tonight, we saw the difference between title contenders and well US. We have a LONG way to go. Buckle up boys, the tank ride is going to be a long and bumpy one, but at the other end, hopefully we can come out like the C’s and there’s going to be a lot of fun. Who knows. Trust in Dawkins and Winger. If you think “okay, this is the C’s it’s going to get better” you’re in for a surprise. Our next couple of games are: @ ATL, @ MIA, and @ PHILA. I’d be shocked if we could even get one win from the next 3 games, but we’ll see what this team is made of I guess. Hope we get Gaff soon, cause otherwise Capella, Bam, and Embiid are going to FEAST. See y’all Wed “when we lose to the Hawks” to quote Game of Zones.
Gaff is a backup center who is starting because we don’t have a starting center. Without him we have third stringers or forwards playing center, which is a perfect way to guarantee we will lose every game.
Why is Tyus playing so small minute? This needs to change
