I worked in tech support, so it’s rare for me to find a problem I can’t figure out. I’ll be playing a game and my FPS will drop to .1 (as in, I can barely exit the game and get to desktop). After I finally get to the desktop, everything is still at .1 FPS. I can spend 3 minutes opening the task bar. 64GB of RAM sitting at 18%. i9 14900k sitting at 3% and 32C. 4090 sitting at 2% and 40C. Drivers are up to date. This has happened three times in a few weeks, so it’s pretty rare and everything works flawlessly until this happens. Restarting the computer fixes it.

I believe this started happening after I upgraded from a i7 12700k to a i9 14900k. However, I also reformatted windows and Windows 11 had a pretty big update that I didn’t have on my last install. BIOS were updated and no other hardware was changed but the CPU. I am not overclocked, intel CPU limits are enabled. RAM is set to XMP II. I have scanned using windows defender and malware bytes.

Any clues on this?
