This Raiders v Lions game signified a lot for not just Detroit but also for the Raiders. Besides paying attention to my team there are teams I have been paying attention to more so than others and the Raiders are one of those teams. The Josh McDaniels experiment is eerily similar to the Matt Patricia debacle we had 3 years ago. Here are interesting parallels between the current Raiders and the old Matty P situation.
- New England coach Josh McDaniels takes over a 10-7 playoff team ready to take the next step
- New England coach Matt Patritcia takes over a 9-7 team ready to take the next step
- Disaster season ensues Raiders go 6-11
-Disaster season ensues Lions go 6-10
-Josh McDaniels trades away important locker room guys like Derek Carr
-Matt Patricia trades away important locker room guys like Darius Slay and Quandre Diggs
Both coaches want to do it their way regardless of what talent they have. Expectedly team performance’s take a massive hit and the team somehow gets worse. It is the same situation in Las Vegas. They have a fool of a head coach who ascended from the heavens that is New England. A coach that is tyrannical, has a horrible media relationship, cannot make a game plan and cannot lead a room of men. Josh McDaniels has a fun quote after that blowout loss to Chicago. In response to a question about why he started Brian Hoyer over rookie Aidan O’Connell he says “This isn’t the preseason anymore you know what I mean?” even though he already started Aidan O’Connell against the Chargers earlier in the year. Great insight Josh. Hey remember in 2020 when the Lions blew a 23-6 lead to Mitch Tribusky, Matt Patricia in response to if his coaching is affecting the blown leads says “Yea I don’t think so, I think I got probably one of the biggest plays in the fourth quarter in the history of the NFL.” It is literally the same exact situation. This game signified the Lions moving on from that horrid and toxic culture and actually putting together a wining team and a wining culture. On the other hand the Raiders are stuck in that same rut we were 3 years ago. A playoff team wanting to take the next step getting dragged down by a tyrannical and sly head coach that is in over his head. Just some thoughts I wanted to get off my chest. I pray for Raider nation to kick this guy out of town and am happy that the Lions have moved on and turned the corner.
