TLDR;
(In short, I’m not so sure about KT’s future with the Chiefs. He’s missed some big moments, especially camp due to injuries, hasn’t fully become the top-notch wide receiver we hoped for, and now he’s got to rebuild trust with fans and maybe even his own teammates, including Mahomes.) - ChatGPT
(*A disclaimer I don’t know and have the same knowledge as some of y’all and all the stats I brought up were basically paper napkin math. I wrote this up mainly cause im bored and I want to see what y’alls takes are.
Availability is the best availability in the NFL from what I can tell.
In the world of the NFL, IMO the best thing beyond god given talent is availability. The legends of the game weren’t just gifted; they were consistently available. Take Jerry Rice, for example, a wide receiver who played an astonishing 302 out of 320 possible games. This level of reliability provided him with invaluable experience and expertise. While comparing KT to a legend like Jerry Rice might seem unfair as yes their two completely different players in different times, this is simply to highlight how important availability is.
What experience has KT had? Well to be fair stat-wise it is muddied given the fact he’s only played 3 seasons (including this one), so I can really only go off this. He was traded mid-year and missed camp (really bad when considering how seriously Andy treats camp) due to an injury. This also cuts time away from building trust with Mahomes (speculative but I imagine after week 1 none at all)
My thought pre-season was that he could rebound back mid-year (and maybe he still can) but now seemingly he’s disappeared. He’s only had 109 yards after week 1. Looking at this year Rashee Rice currently has 361 yards and 3 touchdowns. KT on the other hand only has 109 yards. While that might seem not that bad this is a guy who had people and some in the organization thinking he had the potential to be a WR1.
So, here’s my conclusion: in the NFL, being there for your team is everything. Legends like Jerry Rice proved it, playing game after game and gaining priceless experience. But when we check out KT’s journey, it’s a bit of a rollercoaster. Injuries and missed camps have slowed him down. Rashee Rice (a rookie in a hard on rookie Reid offense is our WR1 right now, while KT’s still finding his footing. Bottom line, in the NFL, showing up matters most and I’m afraid that he might not have a role in this Chiefs offense.
