I’m hyped for this TBH.
IMO Dune is a 3 part story, where the first book is parts 1 and 2 and Messiah is part 3. Look at the book lengths and you’ll see what I mean, book 2 is obviously much shorter than the rest and a I kind of epilogue to the first book.
There are the other sequels, yes, with their own conversation about whether they’re worth reading. But in so many ways book 2 really finishes the story and idea of book 1 that I like to think of it as just part 3.
So that they’re doing a trilogy in the same way is awesome IMO!

God emperor is often touted as the best by some. I think this is an overstatement. It can be kinda boring. But it is probably the most unique apart from maybe the first.
It also, I think links very strongly back to Paul’s arc starting in the first book …
spoilers up to Children of Dune
If you recall at the end of Children, Paul and Leto have a talk where Paul reveals that he saw the path Leto was trying to take but couldn’t bare to take it himself. This basically reveals Paul’s essential “flaw”, that he was too human. While Children establishes the nature of Leto’s approach, God Emperor focuses on what that path ends up being like for Leto. And in that way is a compelling piece of fiction, in focusing on a character that has really gone above and beyond in their mission for humanity.
So I’d recommend it on this basis.
The series kinda lost me when it went into the possession and future seeing aspects, so I am fairly certain I wouldn’t really enjoy the following book, but if I ever get the chance to skim it I will.
